A fever is a raised body temperature, and most of the time it's a healthy response to infection rather than something to fear. Your immune system is simply turning up the heat to fight off invaders.
Caring for a fever at home
- Drink fluids regularly to stay hydrated
- Rest and wear light clothing
- Use paracetamol or ibuprofen if you feel uncomfortable
Seek urgent help for a stiff neck with a rash that doesn't fade, a fever with confusion or drowsiness, or any fever in a baby under three months.
When to check in with a doctor
If a fever lasts more than a few days, keeps climbing, or comes with worrying symptoms, contact your GP or a health line for advice. Trust your instincts — you know when something feels different.
